On August 10, 2023, the Program Management Unit for Human Resources and Institutional Development, Research and Innovation (PMU-B), led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sirinan Kulchat, Deputy Director of PMU-B, together with the Cluster Coordination Team, faculty members from Khon Kaen University, Mahasarakham University, Rajamangala University of Technology Isan, and Chulalongkorn University, as well as postdoctoral researchers who have received funding and PMU-B analysts, visited and conducted a study tour at Frutta Biomed Co., Ltd.

The visit was part of the 2022 initiative under the project “Development of Mechanisms for Building and Accumulating High-Quality Research Personnel.” Mr. Rukchai Ruengsomboon, Managing Director of Frutta Biomed Co., Ltd., along with the company’s research team, warmly welcomed the delegation.

Frutta Biomed Co., Ltd. is a Thai biotechnology startup distinguished by its strong international market collaborations and foreign fundraising platforms. The company originally specialized in fruit juice production and has since expanded into three emerging bio-based business sectors: bioplastics, cosmetics, and medical devices. All three sectors demonstrate significant potential for growth.

The bioplastics division, in particular, focuses on the production of PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoates), a biodegradable bioplastic that decomposes naturally at ambient temperature without harming the environment—supporting Thailand’s national goal of achieving carbon neutrality.

During the visit, the delegation observed the company’s infrastructure, production processes, and bioreactor systems, which are being developed to support applications in pharmaceutical and vaccine industries.

.

In addition, the company, the research team, and PMU-B discussed strategic approaches for joint development of human capital and collaborative research. Frutta Biomed expressed a strong need for highly skilled personnel (Postdoctoral/Postgraduate level) to contribute to the advancement of research and biotechnology innovations.

The company emphasized that the key competencies required in the industrial sector are both in-depth and broad knowledge, along with the ability to integrate multidisciplinary expertise to successfully deliver outcomes.
