📅 Monday, November 27, 2023🎉 PMU-B Cluster was honored to join the Opening Ceremony of the Si Than Festivalin celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Khon Kaen University.
👩💼 Representing PMU-B was Ms. Jaturaporn ChokphukhiowDirector of the PMU-B Cluster Coordination Officeand Chair of the Frontier Research Cluster in Social Sciences, Humanities, Arts (SHA), and Artificial Intelligence (AI/Coding).
🎉 The Sithan KKU Festival 2023 (also known as “Boon Somma Bucha Nak”) is a vibrant celebration of Isan arts and culture, creatively revitalized through the collaborative efforts of faculty, staff, and students from across Khon Kaen University. This festival serves as a central hub for showcasing long-standing northeastern Thai traditions, with the vision of becoming a family-friendly cultural tourism event held annually.
✨ Festival highlights included:
The “60 Naga Parade”, celebrating KKU's 60th anniversary with 60 mythical serpent figures
The awe-inspiring “Dance of 600 Spirits”, presented in a carnival-style performance
Over 10,060 krathong displays and 12,060 lanterns, honoring the sacred Naga of the river with light and reverence.
📅 The 3-day celebration was held under the theme:“Faith • Fun • Reviving Cultural Ways”Each day
featured unique programs:
Day 1 – Faith (Nov 25): Morning almsgiving and the Buddha Upakut procession, followed by a Relic Parade in the evening to bless the festivities
Day 2 – Fun (Nov 26): The exciting “KKU Carnival” parade and joyful cultural games and activities
Day 3 – Cultural Revival (Nov 27): The grand Krathong Procession, the Noppamas Beauty Contest, and a stunning display of Isan identity through music, dance, and costume.
This year, the festival attracted over 100,000 visitors, reinforcing its status as one of the most anticipated cultural events in the region.
📌 Looking ahead, PMU-B plans to support the further development and dissemination of local cultural knowledge and traditions—transforming the Sithan Festival into a national and international cultural destination for the future.
